Spotlighting the Best in local Amateur Photography
I started taking photography more seriously 8 years ago when I changed to a digital camera. I now photograph landscapes, village events and the occasional wedding. In addition I particularly like to photograph wild life. I enjoy using Adobe Photoshop because I like experimenting – and of course correcting my photographic errors! I don’t like having to keep up with new technology but will persevere for the time being!
I have been a member of the Newark & District Photographic Society for 5 years. I am a Committee Member and the Development Officer. Attendance at meetings has increased from approximately 25 when I joined 5 years ago to a membership of over 65 now. What I like about this Society is that it is continually progressing and is happy to try out new activities to help our members develop. I learn a great deal from the competition nights (naturally not always agreeing with the judges!) and would hate for these nights to be downgraded in any way.
My career has been spent in Agricultural Education at De Montfort and Lincoln Universities for 30 years where, for the last 10 years, I was Head of theAgriculture and Science Department. Latterly during this time, I qualified in business management and left education to run my own training business. This included being secretary of a National Agricultural Conference for 8 years.
I was born in India where my parents were posted during the war. We returned to England when I was 6 years of age. I have been actively involved in sports, - mainly cricket and hockey. I am now 67 and retired from education and training. I confine my sports activities to watching and photographing the action. I like to think of myself as being relatively normal even though my frustrations get the better of me sometimes! I have a very tolerant wife Kathy, 3 children and 3 grand children. My enthusiasm for photography is accepted by my family – most of the time!
